An elder statesman, and chieftain of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Bashorun, has stated that he is far from finishing his mission on earth despite his age and emphasised that he was still capable of doing a lot for the people and the council as a whole.

The octogenarian, who is very vast in many areas of community, state and national developments, urged residents to pray for him for more fruitful life.

Asiwaju Bashorun stated this on Thursday while speaking at the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA’s 2026 Budget Stakeholders’ Meeting, held at the council secretariat.

“Someone said earlier that God should keep me alive so that I can do more. Truly, I have not finished the work that I have to do and that is what I have been telling those that belong to my inner caucus. “

“I have known this council since it started in 1955. I have witnessed everything from then tlil now. I have watched it grow and developed and what I am seeing today impresses me greatly. God will continue to reward all those that have contributed to it.

“The council is still in existence 70 years after, it coincided with when the Igbogbo Students’ Union started,” Asiwaju Bashorun said.

He further urged people to pray for him to continue his existence towards fulfilling his pledges to them and the community.

“Pray for me to stay longer so that I can repay each and everyone of you. I will not deny anyone his/her dues. We need a lot of prayers and work. Don’t think that what can this old man still do. There are a lot of things that I still have capacity to do.

“My training still enables me to work over the night to attend to community and other matters and I am seeing manifestations for all that I am doing and still want to do more.

“I can no longer be the President or Governor, but I am still of use to you my people. There are still so much that you can benefit from me and God will grant my prayers by His grace,” Asiwaju Bashorun, who is a spiritual leader, prayed.

He urged the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA chairman, Omoba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, to carry on with the administration of the council by carrying out the requests of the community and to continue improving the LCDA.
